The midfielder went off injured in Liverpool’s win at Crystal Palace, having already spent a lot of time on the sidelines this season
It’s been a pretty bleak season for Adam Lallana, hasn’t it?
The Liverpool midfielder has barely featured for the Reds this term, missing a good chunk of games between August and November and making only fleeting appearances since.
He’s been in and out of the medical room since January, but did make Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad and even played half-an-hour against Italy last week.
But with his injury problems this season and subsequent lack of game time, there’s been a few whispers that the 29-year-old could miss out on going to this summer’s World Cup.
After all, there’s a number of decent youngsters knocking on the door for a spot on the plane this summer, including Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Lewis Cook.
And having gone off injured AGAIN today – in Liverpool’s win over Crystal Palace – we seriously wonder whether this could be it for him.
With the score level at 1-1, Jurgen Klopp decided to bring the England star on as a substitute along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
But after replacing Georginio Wijnaldum on the 65th minute, he went down clutching his right leg just minutes later and was eventually subbed off – all within the space of about five minutes.
We love Lallana – and he definitely provides something ‘different’ in England’s midfield – but we’re not sure we like the idea of England taking someone to Russia after spending such little time on the pitch this season.
After all, the Three Lions took Jack Wilshere to Euro 2016 – despite missing almost the entire season through injury.
But who knows?
Maybe Lallana only picked up a slight knock and will be back in time for Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Man City on Wednesday.
We certainly hope so.
