Arsenal and injuries go hand in hand.

And the Gunners are already facing a crisis at left-back after Unai Emery revealed Nacho Monreal is a doubt to face Man City next week.

The 32-year-old has a minor knee problem, and hasn’t featured at all in pre-season since returning from the World Cup in Russia.

Bosnian international Sead Kolasinac is believed to be out for up to 10 weeks after picking up a knee injury of his own.

This would leave versatile midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles to deputise in Monreal’s absence against the Citizens.

The 20-year-old played the whole 90 minutes at left-back during the 2-0 win against Lazio yesterday.

Speaking after the match against the Serie A side, Emery said of Monreal: “He arrived with no big injuries, but his knee has a little problem and he’s training everyday but not with us.

“He’s doing work alone with the physical coach, and running, and we think maybe on Tuesday he can start training with the team.

“We don’t want the injuries but it’s one of those things that you can’t help.”

The former Paris Saint-Germain gaffer then claimed he has no qualms about starting Maitland-Niles against City at the Emirates.

“For us we are trying to help Ainsley play in this position and, for me, I want to give confidence to all my players in their positions, then he can play in this position as best as possible.

Monreal’s goalscoring exploits made him a real hit on Dream Team last season, bagging more points than Kieran Trippier.
