England are putting in the greatest performance of the Gareth Southgate era against a brilliant Spanish team.

Two goals from Raheem Sterling to break his three-year long international goal drought and another from Marcus Rashford put England 3-0 up at half-time.

How many did you score tonight Raheem?

It is an incredible performance against the best international team since the World Cup finished.

Before tonight Sterling hadn’t scored for England since notching against Estonia back in 2015 but he clinically whipped the ball past David De Gea for his first from a perfectly-weighted Rashford pass – the goal coming after a 17-pass move.

Before the game Southgate had said Sterling was a confidence player and once he gets one, he will go on a run.

We think he might have psychic powers.

For the second, Rashford was brilliantly slipped in by Harry Kane to control the ball and then bury it past his Man United team-mate De Gea before Sterling doubled his tally.

In a move that Spain would have been proud of, Ross Barkley lifted the ball over the backline to Kane and he put it on a plate for Sterling to tap-in.

Spain looked completely shell-shocked as England were at their devastating best for the first 45 minutes.

Eric Dier set the tone as he absolutely clattered Sergio Ramos early on.

The only negative was that the ref, who was clad in fetching pink socks, duly booked him for the hard-but-fair challenge.

The England fans were in great voice as they ironically cheered, “We are staying up.”

Yes lads, we are staying up.
