Fantasy Football, News & Gossip

We’ve said goodbye to all of that transfer window nonsense and we’re fully ready for the new Premier League season.

Unfortunately, that isn’t quite the case for Jose Mourinho and his Man United side, who failed to sign any of the centre-back targets he wanted.

But don’t despair Jose, because you’ve got a genuine fantasy football legend in-tow.

Fantasy football legend, you say?

We’re talking about Juan Mata, of course.

Now, we know what you’re thinking; Mata isn’t exactly a fantasy football must-have, is he?

After all, last season he finished the season with a lowly 81 points on Dream Team, notching just three goals and five assists as he failed to hold down a regular starting place in United’s first-team.

But it hasn’t always been this way for football’s nicest guy.

Going back to the 2012/13 season, Mata was by-far the best player you could pick for your Dream Team, finishing up with 331 points.

He was by-far Chelsea’s best and most important player, netting 20 goals in all competitions and helping the Blues lift the Europa League trophy.

Of course, the good times didn’t last and he was flogged to United midway through the following season, ultimately ending the 2013/14 season as the 48th-best player on fantasy football, with a miserable 126 points.

So why are we telling you all of this?

After all, we know that Mata still exists, but will never quite enjoy the same success that he once did at Chelsea.

But maybe, just maybe, he could be the surprise star of your Dream Team this season.

As you know, United are in a spot of bother at the moment.

Ahead of their Premier League opener against Leicester, Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Ashley Young are still ropey from their World Cup run-out, while Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku have only just reported back to team training.

Paul Pogba – £5m

World Cup winner set to improve on last season’s 135 points tally.

That means that the likes of Mata, Alexis Sanchez and forgotten-man Andreas Pereira have all been given plenty of minutes during pre-season, and will likely play their part against the Foxes.

What’s more, Sanchez and Mata have seemingly formed a decent understanding, with the pair often combining for United during their tour of the US.

It’s fair to say that the duo will be a big part of United’s opening games, until at least the World Cup lot are back to full-fitness.

With Mata priced at a measly £2.0m at the moment – a far-cry from his mammoth price on the game a few years ago – the little Spaniard could prove to be one of the best bargain buys at the start of the season.

We fully expect to see him in the make an appearance on Friday evening, and he’ll certainly be fully-fit and ready to show us all that he’s still got it.

Mata is priced at just £2.0m on Dream Team – get him in your side now!
