The Barcelona striker was in fine form as Uruguay thrashed Mexico last night

Every season people suggest Luis Suarez might be finished.

And every season he tends to silence them.

Despite hitting two goals and two assists in three La Liga appearances so far, critics have been quick to nitpick the Uruguayan for some supposedly off-colour performances.

So his virtuoso display for his country against Mexico last night will go some way to quashing the doubters.

Suarez scored twice in the 4-1 win in Texas, featuring an audacious panenka penalty and a pinpoint 25-yard free kick in the first half.

But was the best was yet to come.

In the second half, Suarez turned provider in the most brilliant way for Gaston Pereiro.

A long cross was floated over the top of the Mexico defence and fell for Suarez who controlled it instantly.

He then dug out an impudent cross with a rabona flick, setting up Pereiro perfectly to head past Guillermo Ochoa in the Mexico goal.

It was a moment of magic and the Uruguayan players were quick to acknowledge Suarez for his role.

A timely reminder… he’s still got it.
